CHENNAI: Five special teams have been formed to investigate the Pattinampakkam bank employee murder case. The police reportedly have already interrogated two carpenters and have gathered call details of the deceased.Police sources added that the sniffer dog that had visited the murdered Nachaal’s house on Friday evening had run up to Devanandan Street before stopping. Nachaal’s husband Chockalingam was constructing a house on the street. A carpenter, who had reportedly taken a contract to work on the new house, had frequented Chockalingam’s house at Vedachalam Garden, Mandaveli. Police are also questioning another carpenter.Nachaal (28), an employee of a foreign bank, was found murdered in her house on Friday evening with her face covered with a polythene bag and her hands tied up together.Police are questioning others who frequented the house. The woman’s mobile phone is suspected to have been stolen by the murderer. The couple was known to be reserved and though friendly with the neighbours. Decorations from the couple’s daughter’s birthday party were still intact in the house. “We have got some clues and we will crack case soon,” said a police official.DMK functionary held with hoochThe city police arrested a DMK woman functionary and her son-in-law near the war memorial on Saturday for transporting hooch, in the process seizing hooch worth `5 lakh and a two-wheeler. Acting on a tip off, the prohibition enforcement wing caught Maariammal (52) of Sholinganallur and her son-in-law Sevi (27) on a two-wheeler. Police found them in possession of 48 bottles of illicit liquor — each bottle containing 180 ml. The duo confessed to have brought the hooch from Puduchery. They stored it at home and supplied it to people in the city. Police also seized 6000 bottles of hooch in 125 cartons with fake excise labels.Man arrested for painter’s murderA 40-year-old man was arrested on Friday in connection with the murder of a painter at Otteri. Police held Govindaraj of Madipakkam for murdering Srinivasan (35) of Bricklin Salai, Otteri. Srinivasan’s body was found lying in a pool of blood near a Corporation park on June 2. Police said Govindaraj, who was a relative of the deceased, had an issue with Srinivasan over property worth `1 crore. Govindaraj thought Srinivasan wanted to grab his land and killed him.Forger NabbedThe city police arrested a man for producing fake documents to obtain a passport at Nungambakkam on Friday. Sudardheen (29) of Thirumurugan Street, Porur, was caught after officials at the passport office found he had produced fake documents.Man found murderedSuburban police found the body of a 40-year old man at Chitlapakkam, on Friday. Police identified the man as Balaji of Union Carbide colony. They found a two-wheeler and liquor bottles near his body that was recovered from near Radial Salai, Pallavaram. Investigations are on.
