New Delhi: The Nanavati Commission has taken cognizance of the Tehelka expose, linking Chief Minister Narendra Modi to the post-Godhra riots. The commission has called a special hearing on the issue on Monday to look into the contents of the sting operation.

The sting operation, titled 'Operation Kalank', showed several riot-accused persons, politicians and prominent advocates purportedly boasting about and confessing the government's participation in the riots.

Most of the people featured in the sting operation have already deposed under oath before the two-member commission earlier.

"We will decide on Monday whether the sting operation contents could be made part of the ongoing probe by the panel or not," Commission Chairman Justice (Retd) GT Nanavati said.

The move came even as legal experts have pointed out that the Tehelka findings could be used as evidence by the commission, which is probing the riots.

The counsel for the Gujarat Government before the commission, Arvind Pandya, had quit his post on Saturday. Pandya had been shown admitting on the Tehelka tapes that no harm would come to the accused,

The panel will also consider if action can be taken against Pandya for his remarks about the government's role and the allegations against the commission.
