The Neem Tree: The margosa or neem tree has the botanical name azadirachta indica. It is considered both holy and medicinal.
In fact, many practitioners of herbal medicine in India call it the ‘Universal Pharmacy.’ So widespread and all encompassing are its healing properties. Just sitting under its canopy of beautiful green leaves and breathing the air heals many ailments of the body. The leaves of the neem tree are very bitter, but extremely curative. They are said to confer a long life and a body that is as hard and tough as a diamond.
Meditating under a Neem Tree [i] sends healing energy to the body and mind [ii] activates our power of will [iii] removes our energy blocks [iv] enhances our health and increases our life span [v] gives us the mental strength to accept and overcome even major problems in life with complete equanimity.
The Bilva or Bael Tree: Also known by its botanical name, aegle marmelos, this is found in many temples, especially those associated with Lord Shiva, the destroyer of all negativity.
Apart from being used for worship, the leaves of this tree also have many healing properties. The Gooseberry or Amla Tree: This has the botanical name phyllanthus emblica and is also revered as a holy tree in India.
It has very sour berries which are used for worship and to cure a variety of ailments. When we sit in the shade of its feathery foliage and meditate, it [i] activates the quality of unconditional love in us [ii] enables us to accept people and situations as they are [iii] increases our quality of purity and reduces our inertia and expectation [iv] fills us with peace, harmony and goodwill [v] activates and brings out our inner and outer abundance [vi] resolves financial problems in life and confers prosperity.
The Ashoka Tree: Known botanically as sereca indica, it is a small evergreen tree with beautiful red blossoms. When we meditate under this tree, it [i] removes our tendency to get disheartened and depressed [ii] infuses us with courage, hope and cheerfulness [iii] fills us with zest and joy [iv] increases our grit, determination and perseverance [v] makes us feel light and buoyant [vi] strengthens our connectivity with our soul and establishes faith, trust and confidence in ourselves.
