Nehru gets anticipatory bail

MADURAI: The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday granted anticipatory bail to former minister K N Nehru, who apprehended arrested after a case was registered against him on charge of assaulting a Tiruchy Central Prison official. According to Nehru’s bail plea, the police registered the complaint in-order to prevent him from participating in activities relating to Sankarankoil by-poll.Pleading innocence, the former minister claimed a mere wordy quarrel at the jail premises was blown out of proportion. Justice T Sudanthiram, while hearing the contentions of the public prosecutor and counsel for the petitioner observed that the FIR was not convincing. Raising doubts if the FIR was exaggerated, the judge granted anticipatory bail for Nehru. Nehru was instructed to appear before JM II at Tiruchy on all Mondays until further orders.
