Mumbai: Three days after the murder of senior crime journalist Jyotirmoy Dey in broad daylight in Mumbai, sources have told CNN-IBN that Anil Mahabole, ACP, Mumbai Police has been transferred over alleged involvement in this case.
A senior police officer, who could be questioned in connection with the murder of veteran journalist J Dey, was transferred on Monday, an IPS officer said.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Anil Mahabole, who was in-charge of Azad Maidan division in south Mumbai, has been shifted to Local Arms Control Room in suburban Naigaon, the IPS officer told PTI on condition of anonymity.
"Mahabole has a number of pending inquiries against him and we wanted a free and fair probe against him. That's why he has been transferred," he said.
He, however, did not elaborate on the nature of inquiries pending against the ACP. The IPS officer clarified that the transfer has nothing to do with Dey's killing on Saturday in suburban Powai.
Earlier in the day, a senior police officer said if required, Mahabole, against whom Dey, who worked with the city-based tabloid Mid-Day, had written some articles, may be questioned.
Police release suspect's sketch
The Mumbai Crime Branch on Monday released the sketch of one of the four suspects who could have been involved in the killing Dey.
According to the Crime Branch the suspect is 20-25 years old with a medium built and 5.5 feet tall. He is of dark complexion.
This man, in his early 20s is believed to be one of the four motorcycle borne assailants who shot Dey in Powai on Friday.
The police have been tracking Dey's phone and computer records, examining the stories he was filing.
Initial reports suggest the possible involvement of the oil mafia.
