Nine rowdies arrested

VELLORE: Vellore district police on Sunday arrested nine notorious rowdies and habitual offenders under various sections of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPc) and Goondas Act. They were sent to the Vellore Central Prison for Men.The arrest of these anti-social elements comes in the wake of the recent murder attempt on a 24-year-old murder accused, Jaggan, on the premises of the Vellore District Combined Court Complex at Sathuvachari last Tuesday. Superintendent of Police of Vellore A Kayalvizhi said of the nine persons booked and sent to prison on Sunday, two persons - Ramachandran (23) and G G Ramesh (32) of Vellore - were booked under the Goondas Act.The other seven persons Illayaraja (28), Pittu Mohan (alias) Mohan Raj (31), Raja (alias) MLA Raja (26), Vasanth (27), Nethaji (33), Settu (33) and Arul (34) of Vellore were booked under various sections of CrPc in Vellore North, Vellore South and Vellore Taluk Police Station limits. “We have made preventive arrests of the nine persons under various sections of CrPc. They have been remanded to the Vellore central prison,” added the officer.
