New Delhi: A US judge has revoked bail for Varsha Sabhnani, a wealthy Indian American convicted of imprisoning and torturing her two Indonesian maids.

The judge ruled that since Sabhnani had been found guilty of inflicting physical punishment, she was no longer eligible to remain free.

Varsha's husband Mahender Sabhnani, who was also convicted of forced labour, conspiracy and involuntary servitude, is free until the sentencing on March 28.

The Sabhnanis have four children and run a worldwide perfume business out of their home.

The couple, allegations against whom is being called a case of "modern-day slavery", could face up to 40 years in prison, although lawyers predict the punishment would be considerably less.
