No Thanks, People Say to Poll Gifts

THIRUVANNAMALAI: Over 200 residents of Irumbedu village near Arni on Saturday returned the gifts they received from a candidate in the local body polls after her supporters chided them.Jhansirani contested from ward 10 in Irumbedu and is said to have distributed silver plates, lamps, cash and other gifts.After her defeat, her supporters reportedly scolded the residents for ‘betraying’ them.Enraged, the public took the gifts to the candidate’s house and placed them at the entrance. They also returned the cash to the relatives of the candidate.
