In yet another murky turn in the multi-crore scam, a retired IFS officer who was an observer for the Vyapam recruitment tests was found dead on Thursday.
A retired officer, Vijay Bahadur, was found dead on a railway track in Jharsuguda in Odisha. Police has said that the body has been handed over to Bahadur's relatives after the post mortem and a
case has been registered.
There have been over 40 mysterious deaths of people related to the scam till now. The Supreme Court had in August 2015 asked Central Bureau of Investigation to take over all investigations related to the controversial scam at whichever stage they are.
"Whatever is the stage of the case, you (CBI) will have to take over all the matters," a bench headed by Chief Justice HL Dattu said while allaying the apprehension of the CBI that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and Special Task Force (STF) of state police may not co-operate with it if it takes over those cases which were on trial stage in courts.
The multi-crore MP Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam, popularly known as the Vyapam scam, involving politicians, bureaucrats and high profile touts, pertains to massive admissions and recruitments to government medical colleges and government's departments respectively by fraudulent means.
The MP's Special Task Force, which earlier probed the scam, had registered about 55 FIRs and put up 28 challans in the court in connection with the scandal.
