New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party MLA Somnath Bharti, who has been booked for attempt to murder and domestic violence, continued to dodge the police for the fourth day after Delhi High Court dismissed his anticipatory bail plea even as the investigators claimed to have identified two alleged criminals helping the legislator throughout.
In the past 48 hours, Bharti changed his locations between two states - Uttar Pradesh and Haryana - and suspectedly kept changing his attire to avoiding being spotted by anyone, said a senior police officer.
Bharti has changed around a dozen mobile phones and almost equal number of vehicles to evade police in the same period, the officer said.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Dependra Pathak said that Bharti is behaving like a "professional criminal" and his conduct shows that either he is himself capable of thinking like a cirminal or he is taking help of others who have expertise in crime.
"We have information about at least two individuals - with long criminal records in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana - who have been helping the legislator from the very first day since he has been evading arrest," said Pathak.
"There are serious charges against Somnath Bharti and anyone harbouring him or providing shelter, logistics and other resources to him will be subjected to legal actions for the criminal offence," said Dependra Pathak, adding that the police have built up a "credible strategy" to bring the former Law minister to the books.
A senior official added that most of the persons providing shelter, logistics and other resources to Bharti are suspected to be Aam Aadmi Party workers. Once arrested, Bharti shall be interrogated about that too and a separate FIR can be registered in that connection.
