New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday said that the Congress is not worried about the results of the opinion polls."A hundred year old party does not worry about these things," she said.
She also questioned the basis of the opinion polls. "The agencies who carry out these surveys don't know the development plans the achievements. The list of candidates also hasn't been announced, so what is the basis of their predictions?
Dikshit said that the opinion polls can be biased. "I won't say they are manipulated, but they can be biased," she said.
She also denied getting any letter from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal inviting her for a debate. According to reports Kejriwal had written a letter to the Delhi Chief Minister saying that while he has challenged her on several occasions in the past, she had never responded. He had offered that the two must meet at a public platform where they can make their stands on several poll related issues clear.
Congress and a number of political parties have sought a ban or regulation on opinion polls during the election process while BJP opposed it vehemently saying the ruling party was favouring prohibition fearing defeat in the upcoming assembly polls and Lok Sabha election next year.
The Election Commission had sought the views of various parties on banning opinion polls after the government asked it to do so. The Congress had written to the Commission on Saturday favouring restriction on the publication and dissemination of opinion polls during polls. It said random surveys were "erroneous", "lack credibility" and could be "manipulated" by vested interests.
