CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Organic Farming Association was launched on Sunday with the aim of bringing together all organisations involved in organic farming, planting of saplings and milk resource development and organic farming activists. Initiated by freedom fighter and Congress leader G A Vadivelu, the association will work towards increasing agriculture production and stopping the use of chemical fertilisers to promote organic food among the public and save the earth from global warming. Five resolutions, including procedures to be followed to join the association, were discussed at the meeting in which farmers, activists, delegates from various organic farming organisations and farmers from across the state participated.Speaking at the launch Senthil, editor of Pasumai Vikatan magazine, praised the novel effort by Vadivel and pointed out that there were not many who showed interest or followed organic farming some two decades back. Showing surprise that such a discussion was taking place in the city, Congress leader S M Hidayathullah emphasised the importance of group farming practices.
