The Bihar Cabinet gave its approval to the new scheme named "Parvarish" at a meeting on Tuesday evening presided over by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Principal Secretary Cabinet Coordination Brajesh Mehrotra said. As per the programme of Social Welfare department, children upto six years of age who are orphan and those whose parents are suffering from leprosy and HIV-AIDS would be given a monthly allowance of Rs 900 each, Mehrotra said. Those in above six year upto 18 years would be given Rs 1000 in the same category.

Bihar Social Welfare Minister Parveen Amanullah told PTI that the scheme reflects the state government's sensitivity towards poor and destitute. She said with the Cabinet giving green signal to the programme, it would come into action soon. The state cabinet okayed a sum of Rs 23.25 crore for making the scheme operational in the current financial year.

Children of BPL families and those whose annual income is less than Rs 60,000 could avail the scheme. Allowance would be provided to such helpless children on the recommendations of CDPO (Child Development Project Officer). The benefit would also be extended to adopted children on the basis of court affidavit. While children of HIV positive and Leprotic parents, medical certificate from doctor would be required.
