'Pak heading for disintegration'
A senior Pakistani Opposition leader has said the country is heading for disintegration like the erstwhile Soviet Union.

Islamabad: Pakistan is heading towards disintegration, a senior Pakistani Opposition leader was quoted by news daily The Dawn on Tuesday as he compared the "possible disintegration" with that of erstwhile Soviet Union.

Raja Zafarul Haq, chairman of the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) compared President Pervez Musharraf to former USSR leader Mikhail Gorbachev for ‘diluting the nation's ideology’.

"This country is falling apart, and the prevailing situation in Pakistan resembled the one faced by the Soviet Union just before its disintegration," Haq, chairman of the Pakistan Muslim League, headed by exiled former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, was quoted as saying.

Attacking Musharraf's policy of ‘enlightened moderation’ Haq said USSR had disintegrated despite possessing nuclear weapons and a strong army because Gorbachev diluted its ideology.

The role of the people at the helm of affairs in Pakistan is no different from that of Gorbachev, the last president of the Soviet Union, Haq was quoted as saying by The Dawn.
