Islamabad: Pakistan's former military ruler Pervez Musharraf is expected to be indicted in the Benazir Bhutto murder case later on Tuesday. An anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi had named Musharraf in the case in February 2011, and in August the same year he was declared a proclaimed offender.
The Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court judge Habibur Rahman had fixed August 6 to be the date to formally charge the 69-year-old Musharraf. The former president's indictment would be an unprecedented move in a country ruled by military for more than half of its life.
Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in a gun-and-bomb attack outside Rawalpindi's Liaquat Bagh on December 27, 2007, while Musharraf was president. She was killed after addressing an election campaign rally in the city.
Musharraf is currently living at his Chak Shahzad residence, which had been declared a sub-jail.
