Pannun A ‘Rogue Element’, Trudeau Govt Must Act Over Threats to Canadian-Hindu MP: Intel Sources
In a video threat last week, the Sikhs for Justice leader had urged MP Chandra Arya to “go back to Modi’s India” after the latter condemned the vandalisation of BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Edmonton, Alberta, allegedly by Khalistan supporters

Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is a “rogue element” and countries supporting him will pay for it, top Indian Intelligence sources told CNN-News18 amid the Khalistani leader’s latest threat to Canadian-Hindu MP Chandra Arya.

In a video threat last week, Pannun had urged Arya to “go back to Modi’s India” after the MP condemned the vandalisation of BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Edmonton, Alberta, allegedly by Khalistan supporters.

“The Trudeau government should take action against threats like these. Arya is paying the price for speaking against Khalistani groups,” the sources added.

Pannun, in the video, also said: “The likes of Arya and his supporters. You have no place in Canada because you are working against Canadian values, you are working against the Charter of Rights and you are promoting the interests of your masters in India. You all must abandon your citizenship and move back to your motherland India.”

Responding to the Khalistani leader, Arya recalled the contributions of Hindus made not only in Canada but worldwide. His statement read: “In response to my condemnation of the vandalism of the Hindu temple BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Edmonton and other acts of hate and violence by Khalistan supporters in Canada, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun of Sikhs for Justice has released a video demanding me and my Hindu-Canadian friends to go back to India. We Hindus have come to our wonderful country Canada from all parts of the world. From every country in South Asia, many countries in Africa and the Caribbean, and many other parts of the world, we have come here and Canada is our land. We have made and continue to make immense positive and productive contributions to the socio-economic development of Canada. With our long history of Hindu culture and heritage, we have enriched the multicultural fabric of Canada. Our land is being polluted by Khalistani extremists abusing our freedoms guaranteed by our Canadian Charter of Rights.”

Arya’s statement comes amid heightened stress in India-Canada relations after the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, British Columbia, in June 2023. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s accusations in September regarding possible Indian involvement in Nijjar’s death further strained diplomatic ties.

India has consistently raised concerns over Canada’s perceived tolerance of pro-Khalistan groups operating freely within its borders. New Delhi has urged Ottawa to take decisive measures against these elements, emphasising the need for robust action to address the issue.
