Peter Mukerjea, who was arrested by the CBI in connection with the Sheena Bora murder case for allegedly "shielding the accused", was produced in a magistrate's court on Friday.
The CBI told the court that Peter had played an active role in Sheena Bora's murder and had even lied to his son Rahul Mukherjea about the deceased. According to the investigating agency, Peter was constantly in touch with his wife Indrani Mukherjea during Sheena Bora's murder.
With this, Peter Mukerjea has been charged under all sections that the other three accused are facing.
Peter Mukherjea's wife Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyamvar Rai were also brought to the court as their judicial custody expired on Friday.
Peter was arrested by the CBI hours after it filed a chargesheet in which Indrani, the mother of the victim, and two others were accused of the crime. A CBI spokesperson had said that Peter's name surfaced during its probe in the case and "he has been arrested".
The spokesperson refused to divulge any further details in the case, but sources in the probe agency said he has been arrested for allegedly "shielding the accused" and "inconsistencies" in his statements. Peter was placed under arrest after another round of questioning on Thursday.
