KOCHI: It seems like every piece of furniture work that embellishes the gallery has a tale to tell, a tale of its royal past back in the palaces of Victorian Europe or in the spiraling Chettinad mansions. Be it the hand made double sided Hurlingham sofas or the back curved balloon chair, every piece is unique in its own way. Wall Frames Fine Arts gallery at Chittoor road that has been there in the art frame of Kochi for a decade is up with an exclusive collection of Planters Arbor furniture that includes furniture with both period and contemporary design pattern. Ranjith Vadakkan, the assistant director of the gallery says, “We have recreated vintage furniture with distinctive patterns that appeals to the senses of those who like to give a classic touch to their houses. Each furniture showcased here are hand-made pieces made purely of reclaimed teak, which is its speciality. Furniture made out of reclaimed teak has a high quality texture and golden honey colour. It also has more sustainability since it releases moisture through the years. Therefore has lesser chances of getting damaged. Hence this kind of furniture is reliable for a lifetime and an asset to those who own them.”The Period furniture on display includes pieces that take inspiration from Indian architecture and temple motifs. Injody Chettinad collection, a rare set of table with chairs that were used in the early centuries by the Dravidians, and the Madras club set with back curve are some of the highlights in the collection. Another section is Renaissance period furniture, distinguished by its sleek features and intricate designs. Eclipse round tables with ergonomic seating and eclipse round table with wide surface planks and central support system are some among the few renaissance furniture. Planters Arbor Furniture is an extension of the Wall Frames gallery and will be on for a while. “These type of furniture would be more appropriate for bungalow style houses that are 5,000 sq ft and above. The cost of chairs, tables and sofa sets starts from 15,000, 40,000 and 1,25,000 respectively. The catalogue has an exhaustive collection of furniture, which can be ordered by customers. The manufacturing is done at Pondicherry and the delivery takes two to three months,” says Ranjith.
