A pitching stone that was being constructed on the embankment of a lake at the entrance of Kallehol village in Belgaum taluk collapsed on Monday following incessant rains.
The pitching stone, which is used in embankments to break-up the flow of storm-water or to stop erosion, was being built as part of the desilting and developmental work that began two months ago.
Villagers said they noticed the damage to the pitching stone only after four days of heavy rainfall.
They informed Zilla Panchayat member Yallappa Kamble, who along with the authorities concerned inspected it.
