A division bench of the AP High Court on Monday disposed of a writ petition directing the state government to take necessary steps for protection of the historical monument of Kavala Mandiralu (twin temples) at Katakshapur village in Warangal district.
The bench comprising acting chief justice P C Ghose and justice Vilas V Afzulpurkar took on file the statement made by the government that it has relased Rs 22 lakh for revival of the historical monument.
The bench was dealing with a writ petition filed by Natti Kornel, a businessman of Warangal.
The petitioner said the importance of this monument lies in the two identical temples constructed side by side with a gap of 50 meters and the entire construction is made of stone. The three temples consisting of three Siva Lingas arrayed on three sides and Nandi statue on the fourth side and these three temples are under one roof. Similarly another temple is just 50 meters away and each temple was constructed in 600 square yards, the petitioner said.
There is a granite hill in survey number 17 belonging to the government just 150 metres away from the temples and the district authorities have granted mining lease to one Rama Rao. Due to blasting operations, the structure of the temple is getting affected, the petition said.
