Nurburgring (Germany): Three Formula One drivers have been demoted on the starting grid for the European Grand Prix on Sunday.
Jacques Villeneuve of BMW-Sauber dropped from eighth to 10th after he was ruled to have impeded Giancarlo Fisichella of Renault during qualifying on Saturday.
However, Mark Webber of Williams changed car engines and was penalized 10 spots, from ninth to 19th. That moved Villeneuve up to ninth.
Williams' Nico Rosberg also changed engines and dropped to 22nd and last on the starting grid.
Defending champion Fernando Alonso of Renault will start from his first pole position of the season with Michael Schumacher of Ferrari beside him.
Giancarlo Fisichella of Renault was among the six eliminated in the second 15-minute session after the first 15 minutes cut another six drivers in qualifying for Sunday's European Grand Prix.
Fisichella thought his lap was impeded by Jacques Villeneuve and made an angry hand gesture on the track when attempting to pass the Canadian.
After learning he had been eliminated, Fisichella walked into the pit lane and pointed his finger at Villeneuve in his car in the BMW-Sauber garage.
''All I can say is that I am really angry,'' Fisichella said. ''For me Villeneuve's behavior was unacceptable. As drivers we know that if you are on an out lap, you give way to the guys coming past on their quick laps.
Villeneuve, who won the world championship in 1997, admitted he might have slowed Fisichella down.
Both went to see the stewards to explain their points of view.
