KOCHI: Raksha Society completed 27 years of running a small special school for children with cerebral palsy in Mattanchery. The community-based person-centred organisation dedicated to serving physically or mentally challenged and their families was started in 1985.Raksha provides service to children with neurological impairments, delayed milestones, autism and learning disabilities. When Raksha was envisioned, it was a school for children with cerebral palsy along with services such as physiotherapy and special education. “We discovered that there were no support systems available for people with neurological impairments in our area. Raksha enlarged the scope of the training to include children with mental retardation, autism, muscular dystrophy, learning disabilities and developmental delay,” said Elizabeth Philip of Raksha Society.
