Rangasamy flags off NCCs Sagar Yatra

Chief Minister N Rangasamy flagged off the Sagar Yatra, an ocean sailing expedition undertaken by the NCC group in Puducherry as part of their efforts to promote adventurous spirit among the cadets.

Three naval officers, eight sailors and 30 NCC senior Division Naval Cadets belonging to NCC from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, are taking part in the expedition in two whaler sail boats from Cuddalore to Chennai and back covering a distance of 412 km from August 19 to 30. The team will halt at Puducherry, Periyakalapet, Alambra Fort and Kannathur Reddy kuppam. The expedition, held as a part of the adventure activities of the NCC, flagged off from Cuddalore on Sunday reached Puducherry. It will return on August 29 after sailing back from Chennai.

As he does often, Rangasamy arrived fashionably late by two hours and 45 minutes at the event, which was initially to be flagged off at 8.30 am on Monday. All through this time, the fully decked up NCC cadets, the enthusiastic participants and the army and naval officials, who are used to keeping appointments on time, waited patiently for the chief guest’s arrival. It may be recalled that the CM had arrived for the flag hoisting ceremony at the Independence Day function, 15 minutes late.

The expedition is being led by Commander Rakesh Kumar under the supervision of Colonel M K Joshi, the group commander of the Puducherry NCC group.
