TIRUNELVELI: Shiv Sena will conduct a ‘Rath Yatra’ on November 30 supporting the Koodankulam Power Plant and urging the government to commission the plant immediately, the outfit’s Tamil Nadu unit president, R Kumararaja, told reporters here on Tuesday. He came to Tirunelveli Collectorate to submit a petition seeking action against the Christian clergy and activists who are backing the protest against the KKNPP. Kumararaja said that bishops and priests in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanyakumari were preaching in churches against nuclear power plants.Union Minister V Narayanasamy, Atomic Energy Commission chairman Srikumar Banerjee and other officials have pointed out that the struggle is funded by foreign agencies, but no action was taken. Activists and clergymen should be booked for sedition, he said. Kumararaja said that Hindus in the district favour the nuclear power plant. He also alleged that United States is instigating the struggle. Since the Koodankulam plant was established with Russian collaboration, the US was attempting to derail the project. He criticised political leaders, including Vaiko, Thol Thirumavalavan and Naam Thamizhar Iyakkam founder Seeman for involving themselves in false propaganda against the project. The party will go ahead with series of agitations in favour of the plant and they will organise the Rath Yatra from Thoothukudi to Radhapuram on November 30.
