Renovated Sports Council office opened

After it was closed for renovation around two years ago, the EDSC had been functioning from the congested equipment room at the venue. It has been refurbished at a cost of Rs 11 lakh, said EDSC president V A Zakir Hussain.Mayor Tony Chammany, MLAs Hibi Eden, Dominic Presentation and Ludy Luiz, Ernakulam district panchayat president Eldhose Kunnapilly, Olympians O Chandrashekharan and Mercy Kuttan, Arjuna Awardee George Thomas, world arm-wrestling champion Joby Mathew and former Santosh Trophy players K P Williams and T A Jafar were among those who attended the function.Sixty-two sportspersons from the district who performed meritoriously at the national and international level in the past season were honoured on the occasion, said an EDSC official.Earlier, the torch relay to mark the inauguration was set off from the Regional Sports Centre, Kadavanthra, by Police Commissioner M R Ajithkumar.first published:January 01, 1970, 05:30 ISTlast updated:January 01, 1970, 05:30 IST
