BANGALORE: The Kannada version of Non-governmental International Panel on Climate Change’s (NIPCC’s) executive summary of the 2009 report was released here on Friday. On the occasion, Barun Mitra, policy analyst, Liberty Institute (New Delhi), publisher of the NIPCC, said, “When we hear about natural calamities, the first thought is dominated by what agencies’ reports like Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change [IPCC] have instilled in us. We have to understand science. The cosmic rays and solar cycles have a greater co-relation with climate.” Explaining the reason behind releasing the report in regional language, Mitra said, “By this initiative we want to stimulate wider public debate over topics like climate change among the local people. The executive summary report is not the solutions for problems that are happening in the environment.People should find the answer. The report aims at helping government in policy making.” The NIPCC has been a authoritative response to the reports issued by the IPCC.About 37 scientists from 14 different countries were involved in releasing the 800 page report on Climate Change Reconsidered. It was transalated into Kannada by V S S Shastry and A Derick Anil.According to Mitra, similar translation of the executive summary will be released in seven different regional languages — Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telegu, Malayalam, Bengali and Hindi.
