'Respected Judges, Take a Bow': Prakash Raj Praises SC Justices on Sending 'Clear Message'

New Delhi: Day after four senior-most Supreme Court judges, in a sharp departure from judiciary convention, ‘rebelled’ against the Chief Justice of India, noted actor Prakash Raj took to Twitter asking the four judges to “take a bow”.

In a first, four sitting judges of the Supreme Court on Friday held a press conference, saying that the administration of the top court is “not in order” and many "things less than desirable" have happened in last few months. The judges addressing the media were Justice J Chelameswar, Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Madan B Lokur and Justice Kurien Joseph.

“Respected Supreme Court judges take a bow ..for #justasking...a clear message ..that there are people who won’t sell souls..and eventually in cases from justice Loya to Aadhar..CENTER can not hold things falling apart (sic),” Raj, a National Award-winning actor, tweeted.

He was referring to Justice Chelameswar's statement the previous day, wherein the judge had said: "We have seen a lot of wise men but we don't want wise men to tell us after 20 years that the four of us have sold our souls. We construe this as a responsibility to the nation and we have done it."

It has been widely reported that after months of internal conflict and friction, it was an argument early in the morning around 10 am on Friday, which convinced the four judges to go to the people's court.

All four had met Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra with a question about the assignment of two PILs on Special CBI Judge BH Loya's death to court No.10, which is headed by Justice Arun Mishra.

Loya was trying the Sohrabuddin Sheikh ‘fake encounter’ case, when he apparently suffered a cardiac arrest and breathed his last in December 2014. Loya’s family later alleged foul play and said the judge was under pressure.

Around 10am on Friday, the four sitting Supreme Court judges confronted the CJI as to why such an important matter relating to death of a judicial officer was being sent to Justice Arun Mishra, bypassing eight senior judges and benches.
