CHENNAI: The Southern Railway has allocated Rs 1,700 crore for development works and has introduced 19 new Mail and Express trains. The running time of many trains has also been modified. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Southern Railway General Manager, Deepak Krishan, said 19 new Mail and Express trains (passing through Southern Railway limits), three pairs of passenger services, two pairs of mainline electrical multiple unit services, and five suburban services have been introduced.
These include two biweekly Duronto Express trains from Chennai Central to Madurai and from Chennai Central to Thiruvananthapuram. Other trains include weekly KanyakumariDibrugarh Vivek Express, TuticorinDwarka Vivek Express, Mangalore CentralSantragachi (Howrah) Vivek Express. besides CoimbatoreTuticorin Link Express, Chennai CentralShirdi Superfast Express, PuducherryNew Delhi Superfast Express and VillupuramKharagpur Superfast Express.He said they were also looking at a proposal for starting a service from Rameswaram to Dhanushkodi.
