Safety tips for plant operators

VELLORE: A day long training on occupational health and safety measures for effluent treatment plant operators was held on Wednesday. The event was organised by the Vellore unit of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) at the C Abdul Hakeem College at Melvisharam.According to District Environmental Officer, Kamaraj, plant operators and managers from various industries of Vellore and Tiruvannamalai participated in the programme. These training programmes are held across the State in 10 locations including Vellore.  Operations by workers in the tanneries without precautions leading to the death of workers were discussed. Tips and ways to tackle these situations, use of masks, steps to be taken before getting into manholes and how to check the level of toxic gases were also explained. An audio-visual show on machines used in de-sludging was also screened.
