GANGAVATHI: The three-day 78th Akhil Bharat Kannada Sahitya Sammelan (ABKSS) passed eight resolutions on Sunday. Treasurer of state Kannada Sahitya Parishat Pundalik Halambi tabled the resolutions, which were accepted by thousands of the participants.The first resolution thanked the Sammelan reception committee, elected representatives, leaders of various organisations and locals for making it a grand success.The second resolution referred to Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda’s statement related to closure of Kannada schools, and urged the government not to close or merge any Kannada schools.Through another resolution the Sammelan demanded the Centra to make amendment to Article 371.Another resolution was also passed by the Sammelan urged the government to make Kannada teaching compulsory in all Kendriya Vidyalayas in the state and demanded implementation of National Education Policy.The Sammelan also condemned nuisance that is being created by non-Kannadigas in border areas.Regarding railway facility, the Sammelan passed a resolution urging the implementation of Gadag-Wadi railway project and completion of Munirabad-Mehboob Nagar railway route.It also demanded reservation of 20,000 seats for Kannada medium students in technological institutions in the state.The Sammelan finally appealed to the state and Union governments to withdraw the cases filed against Kannada activists during pro- Karnataka protests.
