London: Sania Mirza and Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands have advanced to the second round of the women's doubles event at the Wimbledon Grand Slam tennis tournament.
Sania and Michaella were stretched to a three-setter by Stephanie Foretz of France and Antonella Serra Zanetti of Italy before they won 6-3 4-6 6-2 to cross their opening round hurdle on Thursday.
The Indian, who went down fighting to seventh seed Elena Dementieva in the singles first round, could once again bump into the Russian, who has paired up with Flavia Penetta of Italy in the doubles.
But for that Dementieva and her partner, seeded eighth, would have to defeat Sybille Bramme of Austria and Julia Schruff of Germany in their first round encounter.
