New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed BJP leader Subramanian Swamy's petition seeking contempt proceedings against Singapore-based Advantage Strategic Consulting Pvt Ltd which had slapped a defamation suit against him there in wake of his allegations in the Aircel Maxis case.
Swamy had contended that Finance Minister P. Chidambram's son Karti Palaniappan Chidambaram and daughter-in-law Srinidhi hold equity in the Singapore firm, which, in turn, was wholly owned by Advantage India.
He had alleged that the defamation suit was filed against him to intimidate him against pursuing in Indian courts his allegation of suspect transaction between Karti Chidambram's firm and Aircel Televenture Ltd, just before the approval of Aircel-Maxis deal by the government in March 2006.
As the apex court bench of Justice G.S. Singhvi and Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan threw out Swamy's petition, he will now have to fight a defamation suit in Singapore.
The dismissal of Swamy's plea came as he failed to show to the court link between Aircel Maxis - facing a CBI probe in a 2G case - and the Advantage India and the Singapore company.
The Singapore company claimed through senior counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi that it had nothing to do with Aircel and it had just one off transaction with it.
