Section 144 to be imposed in Vilappil today

The Thiruvananthapuram Additional Judicial Magistrate P K Girija, who is in charge of the district administration in place of Collector K N Satish (who is gone for a training), has imposed Section 144 of the CrPC at Vilappil panchayat from 6 p.m. on Thursday. The prohibitory order will be in place till Friday midnight.

This is in the wake of the transportation of the machinery to Vilappilsala waste treatment plant for the construction of leachate treatment plant. ADM Girija said that the transportation would most likely be on Friday morning since the Court had directed it to be transported on or before August 3. The police security in the place has been beefed up and RDO Abdul Nasar has been given the onus of the operation. The transportation would be done under strict security, she said.

Meanwhile, the landfilling of garbage for the railway platform construction at Kochu Veli might come to an end in one or two days. With Veiloor ticked out, the government and Suchitwa Mission is busy considering other places for repeating the exercise while the City Corporation remains absolutely clueless.

The Corporation has already transported 242 loads of garbage to Kochu Veli. This is apart from the 42 loads they had trucked to Murukumpuzha last month. “In one more day, we think Kochu Veli will get saturated. There wont be any need for garbage. There are no other options before us and the government has suggested nothing,” said an official with City Corporation.

The Suchitwa Mission, however, is still drooling over the lost chance at Veiloor, near Murukumpuzha where they were planning a scientific land fill, a model in the state. However, with protests raising against it, the plan was dropped at the meeting called by Urban Affairs Minister on Tuesday.

While officials say that only a temporary solution is needed until the gasification plant at Chalai gets functional or the mobile incinerator arrives in October, things are not easy as it seems. The weather pundits have predicted rains from next week threatening a total mess. The huge crowd during holidays, the processions and the garbage it will generate in individual households during the Onam feast days could be a real headache.

“We have received many proposals from many quarters suggesting places where landfill could be done. In a few days, a decision will be taken,” said a Suchitwa Mission official.
