BANGALORE: Last year we had reported about the installed traffic signal near Banashankari Service Station in Gowdanapalya which was adding more confusion to the already chaotic traffic mess in a city like Bangalore.City Express was informed by M D Hari from Banashankari Traffic Police Station that the problem will be fixed once the medians were put in place and that the Traffic Engineering Cell was making the necessary checks to have medians on all three roads. However, three months have elapsed and even after placing the medians the signal is not back to its normal functioning.“The signal is right in front of the apartment I live. Earlier there was no traffic signal and it helped in free flow of vehicles. But now instead of being a help it has turned into a major menace,” said Kapil Joshi, a resident. Voicing similar opinion, another resident, Kreeti, said,”Firstly I don’t think the installation of a traffic signal was required in this area. But if they have installed it then it should be beneficial for the commuters. It has been months and still it sends confusing signals.”Another resident in one of the apartment, said, “After the construction of the median, I have to take a long U-turn to get into the apartment, before it was convenient.” A commuter, who stays in Kumaraswamy Layout and takes the route on regular basis said, “The presence of the traffic signal here is creating confusion, sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. Commuters are left in confused state as to for the signal to give way or to just move ahead”.When City Express contacted Additional Commissioner M A Saleem, he said, “I was not aware of the situation at Gowdanapalya, usually whenever any mal functioning of a signal is informed to us we take immediate actions. We will make sure it is restored to its normalcy.”
