CHENNAI: The Managing Director of the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, K Gopal, has requested the owners of commercial establishments in T Nagar to construct the collection chamber of their internal waste water collection system within the confines of their own properties, instead of constructing it on the footpaths or road sides. The request, raised to the commercial establishment owners and public, came in the form of a communique from the Metro Water MD after he spotted the collection chambers built by the roadside."Some of the big commercial establishments have constructed their terminal collection of their internal waste water disposal system on the side of the road or on the foot path, in violation of the rules," read Gopal's communique. He noted that this sort of illegal constructions put undue stress on existing sewer lines in the area, as they allowed solid waste to enter the system. The resulting blockages caused inconvenience to the public, as the sewage would overflow elsewhere, he said.Even as he raised the request, Gopal offered technical assistance to those who needed it, for the reconstruction work.
