Pradeep Nakhwa, the husband of Kaveri Nakhwa who was killed in a BMW car hit-and-run incident in Mumbai, on Monday demanded stringent punishment for the accused and said his wife could have been saved if the driver stopped the car on time.

In an interview with India Today, the victim’s husband said his wife could have been saved if the driver, son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, had stopped the car adding that “he will drag the accused the same he dragged his wife.”

He also recounted the fateful day when the couple was returning from Crawford Market on Sunday morning after purchasing fish when their two-wheeler was struck from behind by a speeding car at around 5:30 am.

Kaveri Nakhwa, who died in the deadly crash, was riding a pillion.

“We were riding at a speed of 30 to 35 kilometres per hour when a speeding car hit us from behind. Due to the impact, we landed on the bonnet of the car,” Pradeep Nakhwa, who also sustained injuries, told PTI.

The driver pressed the brake, causing me to fall off, but my wife was trapped under the front wheel,” he recounted.

Pradeep said he tried to stop the car by banging the bonnet, but the driver did not stop and dragged my wife towards the (Worli-end) of the sea link.

“I started running behind the car asking the driver to stop. Had he stopped the car, my wife could have been saved,” he said.

“I have two children. We lost everything. My wife is gone, but the accused should get stringent punishment for the accident,” Pradeep Nakhwa said, his voice filled with grief and anger.

The car was driven by a 24-year-old youth who was the owner of the car while another individual was seated beside him, he claimed.

According to Mumbai police, the car was allegedly driven by Mihir Shah, son of ruling Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, who is on the run.

The BMW dragged the woman for more than 2 km. She was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Victim Was Dragged by Mihir, Family Drove Car Over Her

The probe into the BMW hit-and-run case has found that victim Kaveri Nakhwa was run over by accused Rajrishi Bidawat just before Bandra Worli Sea Link after being dragged there by main accused Mihir Shah as the two fled, an official said.

The official further said Mihir Shah’s father took an active part in ensuring his son’s escape and also had plans to tow away the offending vehicle.

“After she was dragged from Worli, Mihir and Bidawat stopped the car just before BWSL and removed the woman who had got entangled in the vehicle’s tyre. Bidawat then took the driver’s seat and ran the car over the victim while reversing. They then fled,” the official said.

Mihir Shah was allegedly driving the BMW car which fatally knocked down Kaveri Nakhwa (45) and injured her husband Pradeep while the couple was on their two-wheeler in Mumbai’s Worli area Sunday morning, police said. Bidawat was the other occupant of the luxury car.

Six Teams Formed To Find Absconding Accused

Mumbai police have formed six teams to nab the 24-year-old son of a ruling Shiv Sena leader after a BMW car the youth was driving crashed into a scooter, killing a woman and injuring her husband, an official said.

A Look Out Circular (LOC) has also been put out against Mihir Shah, an official said on Monday.

Police suspect that Mihir was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident as he was spotted at a bar in the Juhu area here a few hours before the incident, the official said.

Police have arrested the car owner Rajesh Shah and the driver Rajrishi Bidawat for allegedly helping Mihir escape after the accident.
