Rome: Longtime Chelsea target Andriy Shevchenko said on Friday he may leave AC Milan.

The Ukraine striker, who joined the Milan club in 1999, said his recent meeting with Silvio Berlusconi, Italy's outgoing premier and AC Milan owner, was intended to discuss the possibility of a transfer.

"It's not a final decision. This has nothing to do with money. It is a family issue. It does not involve my relations with the teammates and the coach," the 29-year-old said.

Earlier on Friday, Berlusconi let slip that Shevchenko was considering a move when a youngster outside his office asked him to give his regards to the star striker.

"But do you know he wants to leave?" Italian news agency ANSA quoted Berlusconi as saying. "He wants to go to England."

English champion Chelsea has long been linked with a move for the Ukraine striker and, backed by billionaire businessman Roman Abramovich, is likely the only club that could afford to buy him.

British papers have reported that Chelsea will offer Argentina striker Hernan Crespo as part of a move worth about 40 million pounds.

Shevchenko is sidelined for Milan's final match of the Italian league season against AS Roma, which it must win to have any chance of winning the title. But should recover from his left knee injury for the June 9-July 9 World Cup.

According to reports, Shevchenko may be connected to a move by Milan for Arsenal's France star Thierry Henry. Henry told Italian sports papers he was going to take a decision about his future after Wednesday's Champions League final between Arsenal and FC Barcelona in Paris.
