'Shooting of Sania ad in Mecca mosque un-Islamic'
Being a Muslim, Sania should have avoided the shoot, says Maulana of the mosque.

Saharanpur: Taking strong exception to the shooting of an ad film featuring tennis player Sania Mirza at Hyderabad's Mecca Masjid, the ulema in Islamic seminary Darul-Uloom Deoband on Thursday said it was "un-Islamic" and had "hurt" the sentiments of the Muslim community.

"Shooting of any kind and photography in a mosque is un-Islamic and cannot be permitted. Being a Muslim, Sania should have avoided it," Maulana Anzar Shah Kashmiri of the institution told here.

"It is the sacred duty of every Muslim to follow the rules of Shariat (Islamic laws)," he added.

The act has "hurt" the sentiments of the Muslim community, Kashmiri said.

Another cleric, Maulana Abdul Latif Quasmi, said Mirza should avoid getting involved in such controversies as they could also affect her game.

A case has been registered in Hyderabad against the tennis star and the advertisement agency in connection with the shooting.

The Andhra Pradesh Minority Welfare Department had filed a complaint with the police that Mirza and the agency's crew had entered the 17th century mosque on December 10 without obtaining permission from the authorities.
