HYDERABAD: Youths who have become overage for recruitment as sub-inspectors of police on Thursday appealed to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to raise the upper age limit by three years from 25 to 28 years. The candidates, who formed an association, Andhra Pradesh Unemployed SI Candidates Joint Action Committee, under the leadership of BC leader R Krishnaiah, met the chief minister at his camp office and sought a three-year relaxation in the age limit on the ground that no police recruitment has taken place in the three three years since 2008 and now many of them became overage.According to the students, the chief minister responded favourably to their request and assured them that he would talk to the advocate- general and top police officials on the matter. The youth comprised students of various universities from all the three regions _ Osmania, Kakatiya, Andhra, Sri Venkateswara, Telangana and Sri Krishnadevaraya and others. They said the Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam government had reduced the age limit for OC candidates from 28 to 25 years in 1999.After submitting a representation to the chief minister, BC leader Krishnaiah said Kiran Kumar Reddy responded favourably to the youths’ demand and assured to talk to officials concerned to resolve the problem.“We urged the chief minister to issue a supplementary notification for SI recruitment, raising the candidates’ age limit to 28.This is a mega recruitment drive involving about 2,300 SI posts.Thousands of unemployed youth have been waiting to write the examination for several years. All sections of society are sympathetic towards the candidates. We appealed to the chief minister to raise the age limit only for this time,” he said.Sampath, an MCA qualified candidate from Karimnagar, said he had been waiting to become an SI for the past three years but there had been no notification since 2008.Those who applied in 2008 are also waiting to write the examination again for fresh recruitment for about 2,300 posts.Of the 18,000 candidates, only 1,293 would get employment under the 2008 notification
