HYDERABAD: Two government officials were caught taking bribe by Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths on Wednesday. The extension officer in Panchayat Raj and Rural Development department in Kesamudram mandal in Warangal, N Rajeshwar Rao was caught taking `15,000 bribe from a person to counter-sign on a cheque pertaining to payment of a bill. He would be arrested and produced before a special court for ACB cases in Hyderabad. In another case, an sub-inspector of police T Ramachandraiah, who is on attachment to the AP State Road Transport Corporation, Kadapa was caught in Maruthi Nagar while taking `2,000 bribe from a driver to release his auto seized two days back for violating rules. Ramachandraiah's driver took the bribe and also the compounding fee of `1,000 from the auto driver. The bribe amount was concealed in the slit of the middle seat, from where it was recovered by ACB sleuths. Ramachandraiah and his driver would be arrested and produced before a special court for ACB cases in Nellore.Meanwhile, a surprise check was conducted on the office of the deputy transport commissioner in East Godavari district by ACB sleuths and more than `2.50 lakh unaccounted cash seized from the premises. The raids were conducted at Kakinada on Tuesday night, following information that the staff were collecting money illegally with help of agents. More than `2.50 lakh was recovered from private agents, brokers and from within the office premises. "As the amount could not be accounted for properly, it was seized,'' an official release said.Three private agents and 34 brokers, who were engaged by the office staff were making illegal transactions, renewing licences and doing other work on behalf of the RTA staff. The attendance register and other relevant documents were also seized for verification.
