New Delhi: Delhi's former law minister Somnath Bharti on Wednesday used the option of moving the Supreme Court seeking protection from arrest in the domestic violence filed against him by his estranged wife.

Somnath Bharti, who was on the run ever since the Delhi High Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea a day ago, was finally spoken about by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal earlier in the day, urging him to surrender before the police.

Kejriwal took to Twitter to say that Bharti should surrender before police as he was becoming an embarassment for his family and party.

"Somnath shud surrender. Why is he running away? Why is he so scared of gng to jail? Now he is becoming embarassment for party n his family," Mr. Kejriwal said in one tweet. "He shud cooperate wid police'" he added.

On Tuesday, police had raided the residence and office of Bharti, who has been accused by his wife Lipika Mitra of domestic violence and attempt to murder.

Later on Tuesday, police picked up his brother and an associate for questioning about the whereabouts of Bharti.
