After fighting a verbal political war with rival Narendra Modi in the Naxal land of poll-bound Chhattisgarh a few days ago, Congress president Sonia Gandhi reached another BJP-ruled state heading towards assembly elections -Madhya Pradesh- and addressed a public rally in Khargone on Friday to woo voters and garner support for her party.
She delivered her speech on the sidelines of Modi's speech in Raigarh. She accused her rival of only making "big speeches but not delivering anything on the ground".
"13 of Madhya Pradesh ministers were indicted by the Lokayukta, but what steps were taken after that?" she asked, in a direct attack at the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP goverment in the state.
Highlighting the benefits of bills introduced by her party, she said that Congress fight is against poverty and hunger. "We have introduced the Food Bill, midday meal and such schemes only to help you, to empower common man," she said.
"Where is all the money that we had given for welfare schemes, where has it all gone? The leaders have just been making false promises. I want to just tell them that stomachs are not filled by promises. If they think they can win hearts of people only through big speeches then they are wrong," she said, referring to BJP PM nominee Narendra Modi, without taking his name.
"BJP leaders are capable of turning brothers into enemies and you need to be safe from them," she cautioned her supporters.
"I appeal to you to participate completely in the waves of change that are sweeping though MP. Congress never makes false promises. If you elect us, there will be new standards of development," Sonia Gandhi said as she concluded her speech.
