HYDERABAD: Congress president Sonia Gandhi is serious about the state of affairs in the party in Andhra Pradesh. At a time when the opposition parties are gaining strength in other states, it was necessary that in AP, the Congress should be in a position to at least retain the 33 MPs it has now in the Lok Sabha in the next election, leave alone improving on it.According to sources close to former chief minister K Rosaiah, the Congress president made this clear to him when he called on her in Delhi on Tuesday. The party president, all through the discussion, appeared worried over the party losing grip in the state and sought suggestions from Rosaiah on improving its image.Rosaiah, his aides said, told her that it was necessary to revamp the PCC and begin the work in right earnest so that the party would regain its past glory. He is understood to have told her that there has to be a better coordination between the party and the administration and this point has to be borne in mind in every decision taken either by the party or the government.Though his aides deny their leader pleading for a gubernatorial assignment, sources said that he had sought her help in getting off the hook of the ACB case pending against him. Though he did not plead for governorship directly, he wanted the blemish on him removed so that he would become eligible for appointment as governor.
