New Delhi: Sony has reportedly slashed the prices of its recently launched Tablet S. According to Engadget, a technology blog, Sony has cut the price of its 9.4-inch Tablet S by $100, so that it now starts at $400 for the 16GB model, and costs $500 for the 32GB model.

However, the company has not yet announced any price cut in the Indian market, but now it is highly expected that the Tablet S will get a price cut in India also.

The tablet S comes in two variants - 16 GB Wi-Fi only model and 16 GB 3G + Wi-Fi model. The former is already available in the Indian market and is priced at Rs 29,990, while the latter costs Rs 33,990 and is said to be available in the market sometime by mid January 2012.

The tablet S has a 9.4-inch screen with 1280 x 800 screen resolution. The device has 1GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Its memory can be expandable up to 32GB using a micro SD card. It sports a 5 megapixel rear camera and a VGA front camera. It has a 5000mAh Li-ion battery that boasts of battery life of up to 8 hours.

Recently, RIM slashed the prices of its PlayBook tablet by 50 per cent, and the Motorola Xoom is also available on Koovs at a price as low as Rs 21,500.

It seems that companies have realised that it is important to keep the prices down so as to break the iPad domination.
