The principal of prestigious St Stephen's college has denied a student's allegation that he tried to persuade her to drop a sexual assault case against a professor of the college.
Speaking to CNN-IBN, St Stephen's college principal Valson Thampu said that the student first made a written complaint about the alleged incident on January 9, adding that he urged her to take it up immediately with the internal complaints commission.
This came even as the PhD student from St Stephen's withdrew her sexual harassment complaint with the college against the professor.
Justifying her stand on the issue, the student said that she had withdrawn her complaint before the college's internal inquiry commission because it is biased.
Meanwhile, St Stephen's principal Thampu alleged that it was not the internal complaints commission, but the complainant herself who delayed the whole proceeding in the case.
The student had accused St Stephen's Professor Satish Kumar of harassing her for two years. He allegedly sexually assaulted her in October 2013 and threatened to pour sulphuric acid on her.
