BANGALORE: The state government has shortlisted 4,132 km of state highways for upgradation and another 3,121 km for asphalting at a cost of over Rs 2,797 crore, by utilising its own resources, said Public Works Minister C M Udasi.Addressing the press here on Wednesday, the minister informed that the proposal to improve state highway networks would be placed before the Chief Secretarychaired clearance and monitoring committee. Tenders for execution of works will be invited post clearance by the committee, he said.In the first phase, about 4,132 km of state highways will be improved at a total cost of Rs 53 lakh per km. Another 3,121 km of state highways would be taken up for asphalting, for which the government would disburse about `19.30 crore for every km. He also added that there is no proposal before the government to levy toll on the developed state highways under this package. “Filling of potholes in state highways is being carried out on priority basis.”
