Suicide threat creates flutter at Collectorate

ARIYALUR: A 47-year-old man attempted to set himself ablaze during a grievance day meeting at the Ariyalur Collectorate.During interrogation Ilavarasan told the police that he was frustrated with the continuing apathy of officials in solving drinking water problem in his house at Sivaram Nagar at Sirukalathur village, Senthurai taluk. According to Ilavarasan he was not getting adequate water despite paying a deposit of `8,000 for a domestic water connection as some residents were drawing water from the mains illegally.Ilavarasan also alleged that his house was ransacked by his neighbour and others while he was away but no action was initiated on the issue. Hence, Ilavarasan issued the threat of self-immolation at the Collectorate.
