After a verbal attack on the PM, Natwar Singh reportedly tried to make amends by seeking an appointment with him.

New Delhi: A day after attacking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, suspended Congress leader K Natwar Singh on Thursday reportedly tried to make amends by seeking an appointment with him.

Congress sources said Natwar Singh wanted to meet the Prime Minister to express regret over some of the comments he had made.

The former External Affairs Minister had told a television channel on Wednesday night that he had no intention of hurting Manmohan Singh.

A Union Minister is understood to have told Natwar Singh that since he had chosen to denigrade the Prime Minister in public, he has to express regret publicly before thinking of having a meeting with the Prime Minister.

Two Union Ministers have launched a frontal attack on Natwar Singh for his "derogatory" remarks against the Prime Minister.

According to sources, a senior Samajwadi Party leader met Natwar Singh on Wednesday night and told him that a wrong impression was gaining ground that the former minister was being used to target the Prime Minister and this should be set right.

Natwar Singh, suspended from primary membership of Congress, was served a show-cause notice on Wednesday night. He was asked why he should not be expelled from the party for misusing his position for procuring oil contracts from Iraq in 2001 under the Saddam Hussain regime.
