New Delhi: The Tamil Nadu Small and Tiny Industries Association will conduct state-wide protests on Tuesday in support of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project.
All the association members will down their shutters for a day and take part in protests at various district headquarters urging the State and Central Governments to take strong measures for the immediate commissioning of the project.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday assured Tamil Nadu about the safety of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant. He also said that the protests over the nuclear plant were over done.
The Prime Minister further said that the government could not let the Kudankulam plant sit idle, pointing that the nation had sunk an amount of Rs 14,000 crore.
"We recognise the concerns of Tamil Nadu and their need for power. We will give Tamil Nadu its legitimate requirement of power," said the Prime Minister.
Singh had on Friday said that the first unit of the Kudankulam nuclear power project would be operational in a "couple of weeks" and that the second unit would be commissioned six months later.
