Water supply, which has been disrupted due to a broken pipe on the Kaloor-Kathrikadavu road, will resume on Tuesday...

KOCHI: It looks like Kochiites have to go without water for two days. The water supply from Aluva pump house was disrupted as a pipe burst on the Kaloor-Karthrikadavu Road, near St Francis Church on Saturday. Water Authority Superintendent engineer G Vanaja told 'City Express' that the water supply would resume once the repair work of the pipe was completed. The water department expects the repair work to be completed by Monday. “The water authority officials started the digging work on Saturday and the broken pipe was spotted on Sunday morning. We expect to finish the repair work by Monday and water supply will be resumed by Tuesday,” she said. According to her, the continuous rain is delaying the repair work.  Due to rain the inflow of underground water is increasing which in turn is delaying the repair work. “We tried to pump water from Aluva pump house, but as the accident occurred in one of the main pipes connected with the supply of water to all parts of the city, we had to stop pumping from Sunday morning,” she said.  The old and outdated pipes in the Corporation are still in use, a major reason for such accidents. The annual maintenance work of pumping machines is done every year. But the maintenance of underground pipes cannot be done, this is another reason for such mishaps. The pipes are very old and have to replaced. The water authority is planning to replace the old pipes that cannot be further operated, she said. She said that the Water authority is doing its best so that the repair work can be finished as fast as possible.
